Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
